Unforgettable Coatings relies on a set of core values to guide company direction. When shutdowns started across the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UCI knew it was an opportunity to truly live our core values of Trust, Gratitude, and Compassion. The first of these three core values is trust. In part 1 of 4, we explore how the UCI team used trust as a staple in our reaction strategy.
In the video, Cory Summerhays, owner of UCI, explains the deliberation between whether our business was essential or not. Fortunately, we were able to continue working on many of our projects. However, the lockdown forced many to shut down, including many of our clients. Immediately, the effects took hold as jobs dwindled without a promise of ever starting back up again. Some of our employees began fearing for their livelihood, not knowing if they could show up to work the next day or pay their monthly bills.
Our management team got together a strategy. Instead of letting go of employees until more jobs filled our roster, everyone in the company decided to take a pay cut for 60 days, including upper-level positions. This decision wasn’t easy, but we all decided to sacrifice a little for the good of everyone.
Moments like these allow us to rely on our mission at UCI. This disruption helped to demonstrate how we care about our team and it has shown the trust they have in us. It was more than just worrying about ourselves. 2020 has been the perfect opportunity for us to stand up for our core values. We hope to continue proving our mission’s worth throughout the rest of this year and for years to come.
